LSPR students and lecturer's paper to be presented at international Conference

Papers from LSPR Postgraduate students and lecturer are going to be presented at the 2010 ICA Conference in Singapore and International Communication and Media Conference 2010 (i-COME’10) at Malacca, Malaysia, this June. The papers presented will be:

1. Rudi Sukandar & Erda Handayani: A Comparative Study of Indonesian Media in 1960s and 2000s on Konfrontasi

2. Gayatri Syafri & Rudi Sukandar: Conflict at the Workplace: A Case in an Indonesian Government organization

Both are for the i-COME'10 at Malacca.

 

For International Communication Association (ICA) 2010 Conference, the papers are:

1. Rudi Sukandar: Youth Leaders’ Competing Narratives on Ethnic Conflict: An Indonesian Case

2. Siti Sarah and Rudi Sukandar: A Band’s Forum Website: Building a Virtual Online Community in Indonesia.

 

The two events are internationally acclaimed events where leading experts, researchers and educators in the field of Communication across the globe gathered and shared the latest trend and research. As such it is regarded as some of the most prestigious conferences in this field. This is also the first time STIKOM LSPR sent its delegates to present papers in those events.

The physical form of the centre is a modern and comfortable research centre equipped with online database access and digital library. The centre offers an endless opportunities for students and lecturers alike to conduct their studies or researches.
As a modern digital library, the centre is equipped with access to online databases as well as online access to do researches using internet. The centre in the conjunction with LSPR Library is expanding its access to research reports of the students and lecturers in digital forms. As a start, the centre will have access to digital form of students theses of both undergraduates and postgraduates students.

Apart from the physical form, the centre it self also enjoys access to LSPR lecturers whom most are leading practitioners in their respective fields. Some of the fields are : Corporate Communication, Crisis Management, Media Handling, Newsroom Management, Media Production, etc. The access to such valuable pool of expertise, means that the centre will have the best access both in academic and practical world.

Communication: The Discipline Expands in the New Millennium


Welcome to the New Millennium and to Wide World of Communication. Worldwide, the discipline of Communication has experienced rapid growth with the approach to the new millennium. With advancements in communication technologies and the ubiquitous nature of the media, there has been greater interest in the study of Communication.

Scholars have raised more questions and generated more observations regarding everyday and policy concerns in Communication – resulting in the flux of theories and researches produced within the discipline. In addition, today's students, whose lives have revolved around the electronic media, have decided to embark in careers in Communication – the opportunities of which being tremendous. As a result, educational institutions and the number of degrees in Communication have been expanding. The International Communication Association (ICA) already has 18 divisions and interest groups including Public Relations, Journalism and Mass Communication.

In Indonesia , the need for a degree in Communication is more pronounced than ever. The fall of the New Order in 1998 has spurred a process of democratization in the country. Economically, the Asian Crisis illustrated the susceptibility of the local market to foreign pressures. The need for new foreign investments and for greater infrastructure development presents the case for globalization. The December 2004 tsunami and other recent natural mishaps illustrate the importance of crisis communication. Truly, the country needs more effective and efficient communication people to cope with the new socio-political landscape.

So, we welcome you to London School of Public Relations – Jakarta . For the next 8 semesters at the Undergraduate Programme for BA in Communication Studies and 3 semesters at the Postgraduate Programme for MA in Communication Management, you will learn what it is to become an excellent Communication practitioner – whether in Marketing, Public Relations, Mass Communication, Journalism or Advertising.
